Car packed, ready to drive to Sydney - first leg of our journey.

Had an uneventful trip to Sydney, three hours door to door. The car park of the Mecure is a mess. They are digging it up to build accommodation towers there. Went downstairs to the hotel bistro for dinner. Had a champers and a beer to celebrate the commencement of our trip. I had yummy canneloni for dinner and Phil had a chicken caesar salad.

We were both very hungry.

Watched, MKR (poor Canberra people), Winners and Losers and Parenthood then into bed.

Sydney to Singapore - Wednesday, 29 January 2014

Up at 7am and decided to head over to the airport. It is only a five minute drive from the hotel. We arrived at about 8.15 am and had to wait about 15 minutes until our check in counter opened. From then on, it has been a dream run. Our seat allocation was changed to upstairs in an A380 air bus. Then we were given an express pass for Customs and Immigration which meant we were in our own queue. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes with hundreds still lined up in the departure hall. Then we went upstairs to the Singapore Airlines Lounge, courtesy of my Platinum Virgin Airlines card where we had a very couth and leisurely breakfast while waiting to board our flight.

We boarded, went upstairs and found our seats - two together right at the back of the plane. We had a great flight, 7hours 45mins. The food was great, the cabin crew were friendly and very attentive and the movies on offer were great too.

Finally found our bags on landing. We were standing at the wrong carousel! How dopey. Chatty taxi drive into our hotel, the Peninsula Excelsior and changed rooms immediately because we specifically requested on booking, a room overlooking the harbour.

The shops will be shutting around noon tomorrow because of Chinese New Year so we popped into a tech centre tonight and bought another keyboard for our tablet. Had a snack at a coffee shop and then home to bed. Sleep in tomorrow and vege out day before heading off to India on Friday.
